What to Expect from a Massage Aromatherapy Treatment
One of the most popular ways to make the most of fragrance is with a massage aromatherapy treatment. These massages combine both the benefits of massage and the benefits of aromatherapy. If you have never had a massage before, first you need to find a day spa or other facility that employs licensed massage therapists. There are a variety of massage types, make sure you specify you want aromatherapy. The price for a massage of this type will vary depending on where you are but an average starting cost is around $50.
At most massage facilities there are soothing rooms in which treatment takes place. The rooms are setup to be soothing and comfortable. You can opt for a full body massage or one for the back area only. The therapist should ask you what your goals are for the massage. Do you want to relax? Are you suffering from tight or sore muscles? Is your energy lagging? This information can help them determine whether deep tissue work is appropriate and most importantly which scent or scents to use.
Before your massage you will be asked to lie on the table and covered with a blanket or sheet of some sort. A massage table has a cushioned area on which to rest your head. There will most likely be soothing music of some sort in the background. The aromatherapy being used may be diffused into the air as well as utilized in the massage oil. The massage itself is a relaxing procedure with the added benefit of scent. The only time massage may hurt a bit is if the therapist is working on knotted tissue through deep massage.
If you don't like the idea of a stranger massaging you or don't have the money for a professional massage aromatherapy treatment, you can do a variation on this at home. This can be done with or without a partner. Research essential oils and choose ones to add to unscented massage oil, only a few drops at a time. The oil can be warmed by placing the bottle in a bowl of hot water. Your partner can work on your back or full body, or you can massage your shoulders, hands and feet. After any massage it is recommended that you drink lots of water to help flush toxins from the body.
